We think it's due to the drains that run along the wall, it smelled like a sewer so we kept the bathroom door shut the bathroom plumbing needs updating. The location is excellent for walking around, right in the heart of everything! The bathroom had a weird smell, especially after showering. This hotel was a very interesting place - the room was huge and the bathroom had a 'spa' setting. The staff asked us on our way out if everything had been ok with our stay so we explained and they were very apologetic, the customer service was excellent it was just a pity the room didn't live up to expectations. Sadly we expected more from a 5 Star establishment. The beds and pillows were comfortable but we struggled with the lighting in the room, it was just not bright enough. The Dressing Gowns provided were so hard and old looking we decided not to use them, they looked like they needed replacing. In the corner of the room as you walked in on the right there was a lot of dust and a few loose coins in the corner of the floor. The floor was dusty, under the bed there were several mini easter egg chocolates that must have rolled under there the week before during Easter also along with them was a pile of dust. Upon arriving in our room we felt disappointed. We were greeted on arrival by charming staff who were curteous, friendly and offered us a drink. De Vilhena Boutique Hotel is a fantastic choice if you dont absolutely need exorbitant luxury but yet want to stay inside the citys walls because it offers a. We were excited to be staying at this hotel because of all the positive reviews and the fact it was 5 star we had high expectations.
